August has crept up on us quickly and we have a feeling the June heat wave has returned! Girona is HOT OUT and this morning’s shop ride was no exception. Why sauna when you can shop ride with us?!
It was a fantastic feeling to be back out pedalling on the Girona roads following a hectic, yet rewarding trip across to London for the Ride London sportive last Sunday.
We took the plunge and decided to make the most of our spacious van and road trip across in the quiet, early hours last Friday morning. Let’s just say it was an ‘adventure’ but we arrived in one piece and ready to go.
Following some R and R, the girls were ready to go! Saskia and Suzy both successfully participated and completed the epic and very challenging sportive of 160km in total, come Sunday. Both women were fundraising for their respected causes and charities.
In case you hadn’t heard, Saskia was riding for long time friend of Bike Breaks and former professional cyclist, Sharon Laws who is currently continuing her battle against cancer. Sharon is an inspiration as she continues to do the things she loves and live her life to the fullest. We designed a special jersey by Sismic Wear, ‘#fightwithsharon’ to allow friends and the wider cycling community to purchase and support Sharon and Saskia’s bid to fundraise. The jerseys have sold incredibly well and we are highly grateful for this. It may be a small token of support, however every bit counts!
*The jerseys are 50€ and cant still be purchased via infogironacyclecentre.com – all benefits go directly to Sharon and yes, we will ship worldwide.
So, after some big miles on the bike our fair share of kilometres in the car, this morning was bliss! Dave was especially happy, testing out the latest steed from Cannondale – The 2018 Synapse Hi-Mod Disc, featuring hyrdraulic disc brakes, wireless transmission and an incredible new frame. We are yet to find out details, but we think his ride went well!
A special thanks to everyone who came along for the ride and made it an enjoyable morning out. Most of us opted for the medium loop today due to the heat, however those keen for more, continued on with Bike Breaks guide Josep out to Les Planes for a solid 75km or thereabouts. Following the rides, we all gradually regathered at our favourite lunch and coffee stop, Federal Cafe Girona for a much needed cold beverage and some post ride recovery food. Burgers count, right?!

Cheers all – until next time!
