These routes are all on 100% surfaced roads and we have different levels of difficulty and length. The downloadable tracks also have waypoints with recommended coffee stops, water stops and lunch places.
1 BANYOLES SHORT
We have two routes that pass the amazing fresh water lake of Banyoles. This is the shorter version that takes you to the lake and back in only 50km, an ideal coffee day ride.Click to ride
2 BANYOLES LONG
This ride visits the lake side town Banyoles. This town is famous as the location of the Olympic rowing in 1992 and several world champs. A less demanding ride with only short climbs.Click to ride
An intermediate ride that uses some of the back roads to the south west of Girona. This ride passes through the tiny castle villages of Brunyola, lost in the forest and rolling fields of the La Selva region.Click to ride
This ride will take you across the Les Gavarres mountain twice while also circumnavigates the entire range. After crossing over, you will ride towards the Costa Brava coast along the north side and then return to Girona after passing back over the challenging climb to Romanyà de la Selva.Click to ride
5 LES GAVARRES
Perhaps the most famous road ride from Girona, the Els Àngels loop. It is a favourite of many pros and has been mentioned in several well-known books about the area. An enjoyable route, crossing the Les Gavarres mountains twice and following the 2009 Tour de France route out to Cassà de la Selva.Click to ride
6 LES GAVARRES LONG
We have two routes that climb into the Les Gavarres mounyains apst the Els Àngels monestry. This is the long version that adds a few more kms of quiet roads and lanes to the north of the mountains.Click to ride
This is an easy ride south of Girona. This route is more or less flat and ideal if you want to ride but at the same time avoid the hills, a perfect coffee shop ride.Click to ride
8 MARE DE DÉU DEL MONT
The climb is lengthy, however relatively gradual and well worth the effort, we promise! This ride is one of the hardest and most notorious in Girona, once voted one of the hardest climbs in Spain, this 18km up finishes at a cosy tiny restaurant to get some energy back.Click to ride
This ride is an out and back route, featuring one of the highest and perhaps the most challenging mountains in Girona, Rocacorba. This climb has become famous over the years for its relentless, brutal nature and will certainly provide a challenge with its steep gradient and length. It is used regularly by professional riders for very specific training efforts, so keep an eye out!Click to ride
12 SANT GRAU
This ride follows the route of the Tour de France, 2009 along the famous coastal road, which is one of the most beautiful sections of road you can experience on a bike. A tough day with plenty of rolling hills, however a ride that must be ticked off when visiting Girona and the Costa Brava. Trust us – you won’t regret it!Click to ride
13 SANT HILARI
One of the best known training rides in the area, the Sant Hilari route is used extensively by the professional Cannondale team and is a highly popular choice for visiting cyclists. The highlight of the ride is the gorgeous, winding mountain climb, up to the village of Sant Hilari Sacalm at 900m. The climb is a lengthy, challenging 25km, however very gradual!Click to ride
14 VALL D’EN BAC
This long and challenging route is one of the Girona rides that touches the Pyrenees.
Leaving the Gironés county the route takes riders into the first mountains in the Pyrenees range on some of the hidden back roads in this area. The Pyrenees is a massively underrated area in which the ride in many kilometers of deserted and perfect roads.Click to ride
15 VALL DE LLÉMENA
An easy and short leg loosener ride. Ideal for a relaxing day coffee ride, close to town and on quiet roads.Click to ride
Although there are no extended climbs, the ride does contain 1500m of cumulative ascent. So, yes the option to challenge yourself is there If you wish! The ride extends into the incredible Garrotxa region, famous for its volcanoes, which are luckily all now extinct. This loop has been the Girona Gran Fondo course since its inception in 2014 and is highly recommended.Click to ride
17 GIRONA GRAN FONDO
This is the route of the very popular annual sportive, the Girona Gran Fondo, part of the famous Girona Cycle Festival. A tough ride that includes the iconic ride of Rocacorba.Click to ride
18 EL FAR
An epic day ride from Girona into the Garrotxa and Guilleries area. After a 18km climb you visit the mountain top monestry and café perched on the edge of a 200m cliff at an altitude of 1100m. One of the best views in the whole area.Click to ride
19 CAP DE CREUS
Another long a challenging day this time crossing the region and passing through 3 counties. The Cap de Creus promintary, above the Roses bay is a rugged mountainous area very different from the southern part of the Girona province.Click to ride
The now well known and famous climb to the ski resrt of Vallter at 2000m. Famous as the location of the mountain top finish form the Volta Catalunya for many years.Click to ride
23 PANTÀ SUSQUEDA DAM RIDE
Becoming well known as one of the best Girona has to offer the ride to the Dam and pantà Susqueda reservoir. A challenging ride that has some sections of very steep climbing in it, but no less scenic than you would expect in Girona with the 150m Cupola dam set in the forested Guilleries mountain making quite a site.Click to ride
24 EMPORDÀ RABBIT RIDE
The rabbit ride is a firm favourite of many from the Bike Breaks Thursday shop ride. So called as it looks like a rabbit when plotted (sort of) but the name has stuck. A very beautiful loop into the rolling hills and back roads north of Girona but it has a sting in its tail as you pass over Els Angels steeper side at the end of the ride.Click to ride
25 EMPORDÀ SANT MORÍ
The Emporda region is famous for Dali and for wine and olive oil production, and its also an excellent yet fairly less well known location for bike riding. We have added several routes that explore the area and this is one is one of the easier options.Click to ride
26 SANT GRAU LONG
The longer version of the coastal loop uses the same amazing stretch of coastal road the area is becoming famous for but adds in an extra section giving more climb and more time on this stunning stretch of the Costa Brava.Click to ride
9 MAS LLUNÉS
This is an intermediate spin in the mountains to the south west of Girona. Passing through the low hills called Les Serres and through the mountain community of Mas Llunes, this route is a favorite easy day for many of the local riders. With two climbs on newly surfaced roads both of which have featured in the Volta of Catalunya.Click to ride

The emergent gravel scene and rising popularity of gravel riding is huge in Girona. Bike Breaks has developed a selection “light” gravel routes. This rides are part road, part gravel and use graded trails and can be done on a road bike with larger tires or of course on a gravel bike, and give a great sample of what the area has to offer for gravel riders.

5G BRUNYOLA GRAVEL
Making use of the extensive network of cycle paths and gravel tracks in the mostly flat area to the south of Girona.
This easy level loop passes through the farmland and visit the Medieval castle at Brunyola as well as the Volc de la Crosa prehistoric

4G ELS ÀNGELS GRAVEL
This route uses the Ruta del Ter cycle route that follows the river Ter, one of The largest and longest rivers in the area. After leaving the river the route the passes through the county of Empordá before entering the mountains of the Les Gavarres nature reserve.Click to ride
6G EMPORDÀ GRAVEL
The county of Empordá is located to the north of Girona, famous for wine and olive oil production it is one of the most beautiful landscapes. Dotted with hilltop stone villages many of which you can stop for a well earned coffee.Click to ride
10 OLOT GRAVEL
This is a truly spectacular ride and a real favourite of mine. A version of the classic Olot loop but avoiding the town and instead passing the trough the La Fageda area, a dwarf oak and beech forest formed 6000 years ago by a pyroclasic flow.Click to ride
21G LA BARROCA GRAVEL
A half and half gravel and road ride to the North of Girona a well of the beaten track ride into the lower hills of the Girona area. Using graded gravel trails this is a low technical difficulty ride.Click to ride
22G SANT GRAU GRAVEL
This is the gravel version of the now very well know and famous coastal ride. The ride takes advantage of the 120km long graded cycle path to visit the coast, the incredible coast road and fishing villages, and avoid cars and traffic all the way down to the sea.Click to ride

2 VALL DE LLÉMENA
Roll into the Valley North West of Girona called Vall de Llèmena. This is a quiet unspoilt rural area untouched by tourism. The ride takes you through the valley circumnavigating the extinct prehistoric volcano and into the tiny village of Canet d’Adri which is our recommendation for lunch. 3 MEDIEVAL VILLAGES
This ride is our now famous route through the southern Empordà county. Well known as a wine and olive oil producing area and for its unspoilt tiny hilltop stone villages that dot the landscape. The route is a village hopping route passing 6 of the finest examples.Click to ride
