bike packing to the COSTA BRAVA
Exploring the Girona area by bike
Girona’s location 50 kilometers from the coast means that it is very easy to ride there and back in one ride, the coastal loop is one of the best rides in the whole Girona area for example.
This ride Guide Series is designed to give riders a chance to spend a few days on the Costa Brava as well as cycling in the area to enjoy the other activities on offer including, but not limited to the beaches.
I have picked one location on the Costa Brava as the best.
Partly for its general location but also for the surrounding area and of course the hotel and village itself.
I have developed a series of rides to and from Girona from this location.
From Hostal d’Empúries I have given a few different cycling options, some shorter some easier as well as more challenging longer loops.
I have also included some gravel riding options for this area as the gravel riding in Empordà is so good it cannot be ignored.
Located literally right on the beach, this Spa Hotel was first built to accommodate archeologists visiting the Greco-Roman city 100 m up the coast.More info
You have here GPX routes to and from the Costa Brava and a choice of three different circular routes from Hostal d’Empúries. If you need a GPS unit we offer the Wahoo Roam which comes pre-loaded with the routes.
These two routes take you to the Hotel and return you to Girona from it:

Slightly more challenging ride heading north alont the Costa Brava coast line and circunnavigating the Cap de Creus peninsula. Cap de Creus is a nature reserve and protected area, very rugget with some beautiful Mediterranean white washed villages including el Port de la Selva.Click to ride
31 CIRCULAR SANT MORI
This shorter less challenging route through the flatter fields and meadows of Alt Empordà has some short sections of gravel as well as road but these are very easy and graded sections and perfectly fine for road bikes and passes through some very beautiful and remote stone villages.Click to ride
