The Girona area was made famous by Lance Armstrong and the US postal team who trained here and now by the Garmin team who has its service course here in the city. Girona is a paradise for cyclists and one of the top road cycling destinations in the world. Don’t believe us…. ask the 65 pro riders who currently live in the town.
Now Bike Breaks offers the chance to enjoy five of the best circular routes all starting and finishing in the fantastic, bike crazy city of Girona. Guests will stay in a restored centuries old apartment located in the heart of the city.
This road bike specific tour is a ‘medium’ difficulty tour with daily rides of between 50 and 100km and some climbs of up to 1000m altitude. This tour is suited for riders who normally ride on the road.

Day 1 Arrival in Girona. Welcome meeting and bike fitting.
Day 2 Route: Vall de Llémena
Difficulty: Easy Length: 40 km Description: Day one on the bike is an easy day allowing riders to adjust to conditions and to their bikes. A mainly flat day with one short climb as riders pass though the lush green Vall de Llémena valley which follows the river Llémena into the Garrotxa volvanic park, passing through the villages of Sant Gregori and Bescanó before finally crossing over the mountain pass to follow the river Brugent past the town of Amer back to Girona.
Day 3 Route: Sant Hilari Sacalm
Difficulty: Hard Length: 105 km Description: Day two on the bike is an epic 100km loop made famous by many of the pro teams who use this route to train, including the Garmin-Slipstream team. Riders climb to over 1000m via a 28km climb to the mountain town of Sant Hilari Sacalm, through the Guilleries mountains, a centre for natural spring water healing popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. This route passes one of the largest spring water healing centres in the world, disused for over 100 years and now a museum, just outside the village of Osor high in the spectacular rugged Guilleries.
Day 4 Route: Rest day in Girona city Difficulty: N/A Length: N/A Description: We recommend riders take a well earned rest day mid week allowing them to see some of the many sights in Girona. Wander round the Jewish quarter and have lunch on the Rambla, get a sports massage or just sit, relax and soak up the Catalan coffee culture and enjoy the view from the hotel!

Day 5 Route: Rocacorba
Difficulty: Hard Length: 75 km Description: This ride again follows the route of a well used but not so well-known training ride of the pros. The ride climbs the 1000m mountain of Rocacorba, one of the tallest mountains in Girona county with panoramic views of the whole region. The climb follows a newly surfaced road and the location of a tough time trial climb up the mountain with a more or less continuous 15% gradient. Riders will return to Girona via the lake side town of Banyoles.
Day 6 Route: Les Gavarres
Difficulty: Medium Length: 60 km Description: For the last day of the tour riders cross over the Les Gavarres mountain range.... twice! Following the famous road over Els Angels where some of the finest twisty mountain roads are to be found. Les Gavarres mountains boast some of the finest cycling roads in the world and are well known by riders worldwide. The ride for this last day on the bike has two climbs and of course two descents. Visiting the mountain top monastery of Els Angels before descending to the fabulous stone village of Madremanya in the county of Empordà. Then after passing the equally lovely village of Monells with its famous vaulted main square, riders again cross the Gavarres mountain range to the town of Cassà de la Selva before returning to Girona.
